The pandemic and lockdowns have disproportionately affected women, who are facing job loss and struggling to return to work due to lack of affordable childcare. Economists are advocating for a national childcare program to prevent setbacks in women's advancement in the workforce.

Social and emotional (SE) skills are an important developmental progression in their own right: children learn to work in social settings and to navigate conflict. These skills also support the acquisition of other cognitive and non-cognitive skills.
