French as a Second Language Pathway (FSL)
Important notes:
- Candidates interested in pursuing the PJ-FSL Pathway are responsible for completion of the four criteria below. There is no need to communicate your pursuit of this pathway, as the program will track the students through the enrolment (class lists) in the two required elective courses.
- Due to the school-based elective that candidates in the YRDSB-Carnegie cohort take in Year 1 of the program, TCs in this cohort are not able to pursue the PJ-FSL Pathway.
- Combined Degree Program (CDP) students enter the MT Program with the successful completion of the required two elective courses. CDP students are welcome to pursue the PJ-FSL Pathway, which will require taking the two electives noted below (see #2 and #3 below).
The FSL Pathway for P/J TCs involves meeting the following criteria:
- Candidate successfully passes  (no exemptions or partial exemptions allowed),
- Candidate successfully completes CTL3204H - L’immersion française: Enseignement et recherches (French Immersion: Teaching and Research), (taken as an elective in the Intersession term),
- Candidate successfully completes CTL7200H - Curriculum and Teaching in French as a Second Language – Primary/Junior (taken as an elective in the Year 2 Fall term), and
- Candidate successfully completes the Year 2 practicum in a French setting (Core, Extended or Immersion).
Following the successful completion of the above, along with all other components of the MT Program, the candidate will earn the Primary/Junior qualification, as well as the French as a Second Language qualification.
The four criteria noted above must be completed in sequential order, i.e., the French Proficiency Test must be passed prior to enrolling in the CTL3204 course as an elective.
Candidates wishing to pursue the PJ-FSL Pathway are encouraged to register for  prior to March of Year 1 in the MT Program.
